Secondary Tuition at The Education Centre
At The Education Centre, you’ll find true individual, 1-on-1, tuition.
Adapting tuition techniques to match the individual qualities of each of their students is something in which our hand-picked teachers excel. And, of course, they have an excellent understanding of current curriculum requirements. The Education Department itself has turned to many of our tutors to write the syllabus.
Tailoring classes for the individual needs of the student is an ability that comes with a great deal of experience and our tutors can take pride in the positive impact they have had on classroom performances at The Education Centre and beyond.
Students are also invited to seek assistance with their homework and assignments.
Our Secondary Tuition is presented in one-hour, 1-on-1 classes. As students gain confidence and understanding in their selected subjects, they can progress, when ready, to small group classes. The benefits of group tutoring is explained below.
Benefits of group tutoring
Small group tutoring has many benefits for many students. It gives them the opportunity of not just learning from the tutor, but also from interactions within the group as well.
Problem-solving skills vary from person to person and working in a group demonstrates this perfectly. Faced with a problem, students who find themselves grasping for answers, can be inspired by the methods used by others in the room. At the same time, solutions can seem elusive when a student is focused on a problem that is not the real problem. Group learning can be very liberating.
Asking questions is another dynamic that takes on a new significance within group tutoring. It’s not a skill shared equally among individuals. When one student in the group asks a question, it can encourage others to ask questions—of each other, as well as of the tutor. It also encourages students to think more often and more deeply about what they’re learning.
With its active learning environment, group tutoring not only fosters problem-solving skills and healthy curiosity, it also promotes teamwork and cooperation.
Aside from all these benefits, and the many more opportunities within a group context for subject information to be reinforced, group tutoring is also more affordable.
Year 7 Foundation for High School
Students who start year 7 with confidence do better in high school. These are students who are confident in:
- Basic maths skills
- English skills, including grammar, vocabulary & essay writing
- Knowing how to plan, research, edit & put together a good assignment.
Our Year 7 Foundation course is extremely helpful for students who are about to enter high school.
We boost Maths, English, and assignment skills in 15 classes of 90 minute duration, over Terms 3 and 4. These skills cannot be over-estimated. Our focus on Maths, for example, will equip students with skills that will prove advantageous when they take on Year 7’s higher level mathematics. It will also benefit NAPLAN testing in May.
English skills can easily be incorporated into an assignment of the student’s own choosing. We’re happy to provide a list of suggestions and the whole program will be made as interesting as possible for the student. The skills gained will include planning, research, essay writing, vocabulary, editing, and presentation.
A pivotal confidence booster at the end of the program is when students make their presentation. Parents are invited. And a certificate of participation presented on the day. As you can imagine, this is all about breaking through and realising that the exams ahead are in no way insurmountable. It’s about accomplishment and taking pride in one’s work.
Year 7 & 9 NAPLAN Preparation Classes
These classes are designed to help students prepare for and achieve high results in the NAPLAN testing. The Education Centre have put together a series of small group classes to cover each of the NAPLAN sections.
- Language Conventions
These classes begin in week 2 of term and continue until the NAPLAN in May.
One class per day will be scheduled so that students can choose to cover one or more NAPLAN sections.
In April, a separate holiday series will be scheduled.
